No. 1: "Daniels travels with church choir to England" -Mary Cullen

I wish the picture that goes with the article had the whole building in it, so you could tell what it was before you read the caption. It looks like she is standing in front of a statue, not a cathedral. It would have been nice to see the whole thing.

No. 3: "Pickhinke attends World Youth Day" -Mary Cullen

I like the pictures that go with the articles. Also, I didn't know the little car the Pope rode around in was called the Pope-mobile.

No. 2: "Libyans bask, but who will govern?" -William Petroski

I like the set-up of the article. It has a large picture and title, which captures your attention. The captions explain the situation well. They also have different perspectives on the issue, which gives you a wider range of information to make your own opinion on the subject.

1: "Roberts wants to take his children overseas"-Jake Kurtz

The quote in the article is placed in my opinion. It explains the man's point of view and it stands out because it is in a box.

Article 19: "Ridve View homecoming Royalty" -Mary Cullen

I found a typo! It says "Ridve" instead of "Ridge" in the title. The caption below it is correct, but the title isn't.

Article 18: "SL native Bjorkgren all about taking chances"

The title caught my eye. It sets the article up to be interesting and tells the story of how someone took a big chance and it paid off.

Article 17: "Newell-Fonda's success depends on togetherness, attitude"

The schedule interrupts the article, which confused me at first. It would have flowed more smoothly if the schedule had been put after the article.

Article 16: "Richter trial set for Sept. 28"

I think they have a typo. It says "surety" bond. I think it's supposed to be "security".

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Article 15: "Patterson receives Augustana scholarship and travel stripend"

I don't understand what "stripend" means. I would have liked it if they explained what it was or just used a different, more commonly known word.

Article 14: "China event stirs fond memories" -Dolores Cullen

There is no comma after the second to last person mentioned in a list of people, when there should be. Other than that, I like that the article had a lot of pictures.

Article 11: "Storm Lake wants more sidewalks for youngsters"

The article was put into a box so it draws attention to itself.

Article 10: "A garden in Alta is committed to feeding the poor"-Dolores Cullen

I like how this article is split up. It has different sections explaining different parts of the story. It tells you about the history of how the garden came to be instead of just focusing on what it does.

Article 9: "CROP hunger walk set Oct. 9"

It appeals to your emotions. It's worded so that you feel bad for the hungry people, which makes you want to go to the event. I like that it gives you contact information in the article so that you can sign up as soon as you read the article.

Article 8: "Newell-Fonda tops Twin Lakes foe Alta-Aurelia"

The article talked about people that I knew using only their last names, but someone else who was reading it might get confused. They should have first used their first names so people would know who they were talking about if they didn't know the people personally.

Article 7: "Wind Fuels Prairie Fires" -Jake Kurtz

The article had multiple pictures of the event, which gave me a visual. I thought it was smart to add these pictures to show exactly what happened and the extent of the damage.
