This article has good transitions and information.
Friday, December 9, 2011
No.3: "Girls Night Out at the Jamboree"
The pictures made me laugh. All the people are making funny faces and it makes me want to read the rest of what it's about.
No.2: "Swat Team"
There is a really good picture to go with the article. It illustrates what happened very well.
Tuesday, December 6, 2011
No.1: "Laurens-Marathon sees season end in regional match versus WB-Mallard"
The article was short and sweet. It covers all the facts without leaving things out.

No.2: "District 7 follows Iowa trend as fatalities drop" -Peter Kaspart
There are a lot of good facts in this article. It explains the reasons for the statistics and it makes sense.
Monday, November 21, 2011
No. 1: "Three charged after bathroom brawl"
Some of the wording in the article is weird and kind of confusing. If they reworded the sentence, it would make sense and it would flow better.
Thursday, November 17, 2011
No.3: "Thorson feted at pops concert Sunday" -Dolores Cullen
There is a couple places where I wasn't sure if things were spelled correctly. They might be but I may not be familiar with the vocabulary.
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
No.2: "She still faces passport fraud charge"
The article slows smoothly. I am easily transitioned to the different topics and understand it clearly.
Tuesday, November 15, 2011
No.2: "Jury Finds Tracey Richter Guilty..." -Jake Kurtz
I like the way the story transitions to the background story. Many people may not know the whole story behind the trial, so the background information after the pressing information make me feel informed and it makes more sense.
Monday, November 14, 2011
No. 1: "Timko a finalist at Miss Teen USA"-Mary Cullen
The picture is what caught my attention first. It is clear and big enough to make people want to read the article.
Friday, November 11, 2011
No.3: "Bit of Halloween history is a treat"
The article has good transitions. It flows smoothly and makes sense.
Thursday, November 10, 2011
No.2: "Halloween Events For Everyone" -Paula Reece
The article has explanations and then lists the attractions for kids. It is neat and easy to read.
Monday, November 7, 2011
No. 1: "Different Genders, Same Dorm"
I would have liked it to be longer. It only gave an overview of the story and it didn't explain other details I would like to know.
Friday, November 4, 2011
No.3: "Thousands honor MLK at dedication of memorial" -Brett Zongker
The article talks about many different people that are nationally recognized, but one I didn't know. The article didn't explain who this person was, and it assumed that I should know who they were.
No.2: "Can 'Occupy' protests survive without established leaders?"-David B. Caruso
This had a lot of information about a variety of different places, but it wasn't super long. The amount of the front of the paper is just enough to peak your interests and make you want to read the rest of the story.

No. 1: "Daniels travels with church choir to England" -Mary Cullen
I wish the picture that goes with the article had the whole building in it, so you could tell what it was before you read the caption. It looks like she is standing in front of a statue, not a cathedral. It would have been nice to see the whole thing.
Wednesday, October 26, 2011
No. 3: "Pickhinke attends World Youth Day" -Mary Cullen
I like the pictures that go with the articles. Also, I didn't know the little car the Pope rode around in was called the Pope-mobile.
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
No. 2: "Libyans bask, but who will govern?" -William Petroski
I like the set-up of the article. It has a large picture and title, which captures your attention. The captions explain the situation well. They also have different perspectives on the issue, which gives you a wider range of information to make your own opinion on the subject.
Monday, October 24, 2011
1: "Roberts wants to take his children overseas"-Jake Kurtz
The quote in the article is placed in my opinion. It explains the man's point of view and it stands out because it is in a box.
Thursday, October 20, 2011
Article 19: "Ridve View homecoming Royalty" -Mary Cullen
I found a typo! It says "Ridve" instead of "Ridge" in the title. The caption below it is correct, but the title isn't.
Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Article 18: "SL native Bjorkgren all about taking chances"
The title caught my eye. It sets the article up to be interesting and tells the story of how someone took a big chance and it paid off.
Monday, October 17, 2011
Article 17: "Newell-Fonda's success depends on togetherness, attitude"
The schedule interrupts the article, which confused me at first. It would have flowed more smoothly if the schedule had been put after the article.
Friday, October 14, 2011
Article 16: "Richter trial set for Sept. 28"
I think they have a typo. It says "surety" bond. I think it's supposed to be "security".
Thursday, October 13, 2011
Article 15: "Patterson receives Augustana scholarship and travel stripend"
I don't understand what "stripend" means. I would have liked it if they explained what it was or just used a different, more commonly known word.
Tuesday, October 11, 2011
Article 14: "China event stirs fond memories" -Dolores Cullen
There is no comma after the second to last person mentioned in a list of people, when there should be. Other than that, I like that the article had a lot of pictures.
Monday, October 10, 2011
Article 13: "BVU student wins $250 in SL United scavenger hunt"
I found a typo. It's supposed to be "Lowe's" but it says "Loew's".
Thursday, October 6, 2011
Article 12: "Newell-Fonda takes on Remsen S.M. -Jamie Knapp
The article was a good length and I didn't find any punctuation mistakes.
Tuesday, October 4, 2011
Article 11: "Storm Lake wants more sidewalks for youngsters"
The article was put into a box so it draws attention to itself.
Article 10: "A garden in Alta is committed to feeding the poor"-Dolores Cullen
I like how this article is split up. It has different sections explaining different parts of the story. It tells you about the history of how the garden came to be instead of just focusing on what it does.
Monday, October 3, 2011
Article 9: "CROP hunger walk set Oct. 9"
It appeals to your emotions. It's worded so that you feel bad for the hungry people, which makes you want to go to the event. I like that it gives you contact information in the article so that you can sign up as soon as you read the article.
Article 8: "Newell-Fonda tops Twin Lakes foe Alta-Aurelia"
The article talked about people that I knew using only their last names, but someone else who was reading it might get confused. They should have first used their first names so people would know who they were talking about if they didn't know the people personally.
Article 7: "Wind Fuels Prairie Fires" -Jake Kurtz
The article had multiple pictures of the event, which gave me a visual. I thought it was smart to add these pictures to show exactly what happened and the extent of the damage.
Thursday, September 22, 2011
Article 6: "Witter show quilts inspire, delight"
I don't think there was supposed to be a comma in the title. It doesn't really make sense with the comma. Other than that, I like how it had a lot of pictures of the different quilts at the show throughout.
Article 5: "Newell Library reopens doors after June 23 fire"
This article is short and sweet. It tells you what is going on but doesn't give you a whole bunch of unnecessary details. I didn't like how it went from third to first person, though. It felt like two different people wrote the article and they put them together. It was as if the first person writing was supposed to be a quote.
Article 4: "Pride of Iowa contestants share their recipes"
The way that the article was set up was confusing to me. It had a recipe in the middle and then started on another topic after that, with another recipe at the end. I think it would have flowed much better if both the recipes had been at the end.
Monday, September 19, 2011
Article 3: "Richter claims state has evidence to clear her"
I found a typo in this article. There is no space between two words where it is obvious there should be.
Article 2: "Palin Running"
I like this article because it talks about more than just the main character, who is Sarah Palin. It talked more about how she interacted with the locals and used their quotes instead of hers. The article showed different opinions and reactions, and it kept my attention even though it was a longer article.
Article 1: "Up, Up and Away."
This article is very short. It has just two pictures with a long caption explaining what's going on. I like that it had a picture of the event and a picture of the people in the event. I also think it's smart that it didn't have a whole article on the subject because you get the idea in the caption, and a long article would just waste space.
